Description:

HSE Performance Coach

An excellent opportunity for an experienced HSE professional to join a leading UK civil engineering and infrastructure contractor.

Working across live infrastructure projects, you will be responsible for engaging directly with site teams and helping to improve health, safety, environmental and quality performance. This is a visible, hands-on position for someone who enjoys being out on site and can build genuine credibility with the workforce.

The role

You will work closely with operatives and site management to promote safe working practices and encourage positive behavioural change.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Coaching and mentoring frontline operatives

• Delivering toolbox talks and safety briefings

• Supporting the communication of method statements, risk assessments and safe systems of work

• Carrying out site inspections and following up outstanding actions

• Promoting near-miss reporting and behavioural safety initiatives

• Raising awareness of occupational health risks, including fatigue, noise, respiratory health and manual handling

• Monitoring environmental compliance and promoting good practice across sites

About you

You will have previous experience within civil engineering, utilities or another operational construction environment. Experience within pipe-laying, tunnelling, shaft sinking, street works or confined-space operations would be particularly relevant.

You will be a confident and approachable communicator with the ability to coach, influence and challenge site teams in a calm and constructive way. You will understand that this role is about engaging the workforce and improving behaviour, rather than simply identifying non-compliance.

You will hold a valid CSCS card and SMSTS, alongside relevant environmental awareness, service avoidance, NRSWA Supervisor, manual handling and high-risk confined-space training. Previous coaching or mentoring experience would be beneficial.

The company

You will be joining one of the UK’s largest privately owned civil engineering and infrastructure specialists, employing more than 1,200 people nationwide. The business delivers long-term projects across the water, transport, energy and built environment sectors and has a strong track record of investing in its people and promoting from within.
