About the role  

As an HSE Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting a strong health, safety and environmental culture across the business. Working closely with front-line managers, Departmental Managers and Shift Leaders, you will provide expert guidance, coaching and practical support to ensure compliance with legislation, company standards and the DFDS Safety Management System. You will help identify and manage risks, investigate incidents, monitor performance and drive continuous improvement across HSE practices.

You will be responsible for

Providing HSE guidance and support to managers and operational teams, helping ensure safe working practices and compliance with relevant legislation, company standards and the DFDS Safety Management System.

Monitoring HSE performance and trends, using KPIs, risk assessments and other data to identify areas for improvement and support the delivery of measurable HSE improvement plans.

Supporting incident and accident investigations, helping establish root causes, identify corrective actions and ensure recommendations are sustainable and effectively implemented to prevent recurrence.

Developing and promoting HSE awareness, delivering training, Toolbox Talks, Safety Alerts and best-practice initiatives, while supporting emergency exercises and preparedness activities.

Maintaining and improving HSE systems and processes, including Risk Registers, Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, Crisis Management, Business Continuity Plans and relevant ISO accreditations, working collaboratively with colleagues and key stakeholders.

About you 

You are a proactive and self-motivated Health & Safety professional with a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) and relevant experience working within an industrial, manufacturing, logistics or operational environment. You have a strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation and are confident applying this knowledge in a practical, hands-on setting. You will be comfortable carrying out risk assessments, incident investigations, inspections and audits, as well as producing clear and accurate reports and safety documentation.

You are a confident communicator who is great at forming relationships and building credibility with people at all levels of the organisation. You can influence and engage operational teams, provide practical advice and challenge where necessary, while maintaining a positive and approachable attitude. Organised and able to work independently, you can manage competing priorities and take ownership of your workload. Most importantly, you bring a proactive approach, a positive attitude and a fun personality, helping to make health and safety engaging and embedded across the business.
