About the Company

A well-established and growing construction and contracting group is looking to appoint a Health & Safety Manager to oversee and drive high standards of Health & Safety across its operations in the North East.

The business operates across a diverse range of sectors including demolition, civil engineering, construction, highways, aggregates, waste management, plant and haulage, providing an excellent environment for an experienced H&S professional.

About the Role

As Health & Safety Manager, you will take a leading role in managing and developing the company's Health & Safety standards across its demolition and construction operations.

You will work closely with senior management, operational teams and site management to ensure robust H&S systems are implemented, maintained and continuously improved.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety professional looking to take ownership of H&S within a varied and fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and manage Health & Safety across demolition, construction and associated operational activities.

* Provide expert H&S advice and guidance to senior management, site teams and operational staff.

* Develop, implement and continually improve H&S policies, procedures and systems.

* Conduct regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.

* Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice.

* Review and approve Risk Assessments, Method Statements and other relevant documentation.

* Lead and support accident, incident and near-miss investigations.

* Monitor and improve subcontractor H&S performance.

* Deliver and support toolbox talks, inductions and H&S training.

* Identify areas of risk and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions.

* Produce H&S reports, statistics and performance updates for senior management.

* Promote and maintain a strong, positive Health & Safety culture throughout the business.

* Keep up to date with changes in legislation and ensure the business remains compliant.

* Work collaboratively with operational and senior management teams to continually improve H&S performance.

Requirements

* NEBOSH General Certificate or higher-level Health & Safety qualification.

* Previous experience in a Health & Safety Manager / Senior H&S Advisor position.

* Strong background within demolition, construction, civil engineering or another high-risk environment.

* Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and construction regulations.

* Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations.

* Strong understanding of RAMS and safe systems of work.

* Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage with both senior management and site-based teams.

* Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of Health & Safety across multiple operations.

* Full UK driving licence.

* NEBOSH Diploma / NVQ Level 6 / CMIOSH would be advantageous.
