Description:

Main duties

1. To inspect dwellings and enforce statutory provisions to ensure compliance with the authorities’ statutory obligations, and provide guidance, information, and training to landlords to aid their compliance.

1. To prepare, monitor and authorise legal and other documentation, and to instigate legal proceedings to ensure compliance with the authorities’ statutory obligations under guidance from a senior officer.

1. To gather, analyse, co-ordinate and interpret data to support the improvement of efficiency and effectiveness to maintain public safety and support landlords.

1. To develop, deliver and maintain effective training for internal and external customers and partners including councillors to ensure compliance with the authorities’ statutory obligations.

1. To keep up to date with relevant legislation, standards, guidance, and other information to develop any appropriate specialist knowledge of relevant subject areas to ensure compliance with the statutory requirements.

1. To attend and contribute to meetings, committees, public enquiries, tribunals, and court hearings in a technical, expert, or advisory capacity.

1. To make enforcement decisions that have significant social, economic, and environmental implications.

To contribute, maintain and comply with the authorities internal policies and procedures to manage risks to the authority

The professional competency for this post is to be:

1. Possession of a degree

2. Possession of a CIEH approved Higher Certificate in Housing Practice or; a BTech in Environmental Health or; an HNC level qualification in building construction / surveying.

3. Technical competencies are as set out in the Departmental and Housing Standards competency framework. Progression through the grade increments is dependent on a competency assessment
