I am working in partnership with a Local Authority in Derby who are looking for an experienced Housing Standards Officer to join the Housing Standards Team for a minimum 6-month temporary contract.

Purpose of the role: To deliver specialised statutory enforcement including the provision of technical, specialist and general support within the Housing Standards Team in the Communities, Environment and Regulatory Services Directorate.

Main Duties:

To inspect dwellings and enforce statutory provisions to ensure compliance with the authorities’ statutory obligations, and provide guidance, information, and training to landlords to aid their compliance.

To prepare, monitor and authorise legal and other documentation, and to instigate legal proceedings to ensure compliance with the authorities’ statutory obligations under guidance from a senior officer.

To gather, analyse, co-ordinate and interpret data to support the improvement of efficiency and effectiveness to maintain public safety and support landlords.

To develop, deliver and maintain effective training for internal and external customers and partners including councillors to ensure compliance with the authorities’ statutory obligations.

To keep up to date with relevant legislation, standards, guidance, and other information to develop any appropriate specialist knowledge of relevant subject areas to ensure compliance with the statutory requirements.

To attend and contribute to meetings, committees, public enquiries, tribunals, and court hearings in a technical, expert, or advisory capacity.

To make enforcement decisions that have significant social, economic, and environmental implications.

To contribute, maintain and comply with the authorities’ internal policies and procedures to manage risks to the authority.

To be considered for this role you will need to possess a CIEH approved Higher Certificate in Housing Practice or; a BTech in Environmental Health or; an HNC level qualification in building construction / surveying.

Full time hours, Monday – Friday
