Scope of the role:
Supporting the Operations Manager of a busy clinical laboratory, your core duties will revolve around performing both classic and custom histology techniques and processes. You will be responsible for researching, troubleshooting and concluding histology enquiries that come into the Lab. You will produce high-quality techniques such as embedding, tissue processing and grossing, microtomy, IHC and H&E staining.
Role profile:
Receipt of tissue samples, accessioning and labelling of all specimens entering the facility
Process all associated paperwork and electronic filing of documents related to samples
Preparing slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists - both routine and specialised methods, in accordance with established SOPs
Preparation of tissue samples with chemicals; slicing and mounting on glass slides for microscopic evaluation
FFPE, tissue grossing and processing
Automated and manual cover slipping of stained slides
IHC staining on automated platforms
File finished blocks and slides according to established protocols
Working on developing new IHC assays with the wider IHC team
Maintaining a good flow of communication between pathology, Lab staff, equipment maintenance and stores to ensure the efficient running of the Histotechnology team
Managing a LIMS and internal database to document equipment validation or maintenance needs and taking initiative in reporting any needs or non-conformance
Supporting in preparing the Lab for inspections and audit
Your background:
BSc Biomedical Science, Biology, Biochemistry or related (or equivalent)
Demonstrable practical work experience in a Histotechnology Lab setting
Up to date skillset in IHC such as: staining, embedding, microtomy, sectioning, preparing slides and all associated digital filing
Able to create, or support development of new IHC assays
Must be able to work in a Biohazard environment and be aware of/comply to safety protocols related to ISO 15189
Good visual acuity including colour perception
