Hire Controller – Construction Plant

Location: Ampthill, Bedfordshire
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Hire Controller to join an established construction plant business based in Ampthill, Bedfordshire.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the hire, allocation and movement of construction plant and equipment, supporting both internal construction projects and day-to-day depot operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and proactive individual with experience in plant hire, construction equipment or the wider construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate the hire, allocation and movement of construction plant and machinery.

*

Manage plant hire requests from site managers and project teams.

*

Arrange plant deliveries, collections, off-hires and transfers between construction sites.

*

Maintain accurate records of plant availability, movements and hire documentation.

*

Liaise with transport teams, workshop engineers and site personnel to ensure equipment is available when required.

*

Source equipment from external plant hire suppliers when necessary.

*

Monitor hire periods, equipment utilisation and associated costs.

*

Ensure all plant documentation, inspections and certification are up to date.

*

Deal with day-to-day enquiries and resolve plant availability or delivery issues.

*

Support the Plant Manager with the efficient running of the hire desk and depot operations.

Requirements

*

Previous experience as a Hire Controller, Plant Hire Coordinator, Hire Desk Controller or similar.

*

Good knowledge of construction plant, machinery and equipment.

*

Experience coordinating plant deliveries, collections and off-hires.

*

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple requests.

*

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

*

Good IT skills and experience using hire management systems.

*

Ability to work effectively in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Experience within construction plant hire, civil engineering, groundworks or reinforced concrete frames would be particularly advantageous.
