Highway Inspector

Description:

Our client, is currently seeking a diligent Highway Inspector to join their team on a contract basis. This role is critical to ensuring the Local Authority fulfils its statutory duties of inspection, assessment, and maintenance of the highway network, prioritising safety, serviceability, and sustainability. The role demands full-time presence in the operational area during weekdays, whether on-site or at the office.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspect, investigate, and order works necessary to maintain the highway network in a safe condition.
Adhere to legislation, policy, codes of practice, procedures, and standards for highway maintenance.
Maintain accurate records and documentation for future reference and legal defence.
Assist with processing third-party insurance claims within legal protocols and timescales.
Provide inspection and maintenance records, statements of evidence, and attend court for cross-examination in support of the local authority.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including client officers, elected members, the public, parish councils, and emergency services.
Investigate stakeholder enquiries within prescribed timescales and advise on solutions to ensure highway safety.

Job Requirements:

Experience in streetworks and highway inspections.
Strong understanding of the Highways Act 1980 and relevant statutory duties.
Ability to maintain accurate and systematic records.
Experience working within strict legal protocols and timescales.
Proficiency in handling third-party insurance claims and providing legal defence.
Excellent communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
