Highway Engineer - Contract
£30 per hour | 6-Month Contract | Hybrid Working - Predominantly Site Based
A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced Highway Engineer to support a busy programme of highways maintenance and surface dressing works. This is a delivery-focused, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working on-site, managing schemes independently, and driving works through from assessment to completion.
You will play a key role in preparing and delivering maintenance schemes across the highway network, ensuring works are accurately scoped, packaged, and supervised to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
·Deliver highways maintenance and surface dressing schemes on-site
·Prepare and coordinate upcoming surface dressing programmes
·Visit and assess approximately 200 sites for patching works
·Measure works and produce structured contractor work packages
·Supervise works on the highway network to ensure quality and compliance
·Manage your own workload and prioritise site activities effectively
·Liaise with contractors and ensure works are delivered safely and efficiently
Requirements
·Proven experience within highways maintenance and site supervision
·Strong understanding of road construction, surfacing, and surface dressing works
·Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
·Experience measuring and marking out sites for delivery
·Background working with a highways contractor or within a public sector environment desirable
·Full UK driving licence preferred
·Comfortable working predominantly on-site
