Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Sutton

Location: Sutton, South London

Salary: £100–£120 per day

Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary

Start date: 21 September 2026

An ambitious and inclusive primary school in Sutton is recruiting an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to strengthen its teaching team. You will combine planned class cover with targeted intervention work, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys both whole-class teaching and focused pupil support.

The school has a collaborative culture and values HLTAs as skilled practitioners. You will receive clear plans for cover lessons and work closely with teachers to improve outcomes for pupils who need extra challenge or support.

Main responsibilities:

Provide planned cover across EYFS, KS1 and KS2

Deliver lessons confidently and maintain established routines

Lead targeted groups in phonics, reading, writing and mathematics

Adapt tasks to meet a range of learning needs

Monitor progress and give clear feedback to teaching staff

Promote positive behaviour and a purposeful learning environment

To succeed as the HLTA, you will need:

HLTA status or proven experience performing HLTA duties

Strong curriculum knowledge and recent primary-school experience

Confidence managing a whole class independently

Excellent organisation, initiative and communication

The right to work in the UK
