Location: Bury St Edmunds

Salary: Actual salary £25,015.19 - £27,302.29 dependant on qualifications

Hourly rate: £14.00 - £15.28 per hour

Hours: Term Time only - Monday - Friday - 8.30am - 4.30pm

Contract: Temp to Perm

Our Partner School:

We are currently looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our Partner School in Bury St Edmunds. The successful candidate will support the Class Teacher with all elements of the day to day running of the class and to teach whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher on a regular basis across a range of classes.

Our Partner School in Bury St Edmunds provides day placements for students aged 9 to 16 years primarily with social, emotional and mental health challenges or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.  Some may be on the autistic spectrum or have anxieties and difficulties that create barriers to learning. 

With small classes, a maximum of 10 students you can focus on the needs of each student. There is a full clinical team onsite to support at all times and you will have the support of an experienced and stable SLT.

Main Purpose of the Role:

Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.

To lead in the absence of any Class Teachers across our Partner School in Bury St Edmunds.

Support the day to day running of classes across the school and take the lead in the absence of a class teacher.

Select and adapt appropriate resources/methods to facilitate agreed learning activities

Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.

Assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment

Participate in the planning and evaluation of learning activities.

Be a role model for new staff and supervise and guide less experienced TAs.

Further professional development by engaging in reflective practices and continuous professional development and appraisal, including attending all statutory training provided by the school.

Contribute to the community life of the school by taking an active part in the preparation and celebration of both community and multi-cultural events.

Respond to the varying and changing needs of the school and undertake duties and tasks to the highest ability in order to achieve the smooth running of the school.

Skills and Qualifications

The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification, or demonstrate equivalent skill level.

GCSE pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths

Knowledge and Experience:

Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEMH, ADHD and ASD

Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures

Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.

Experience working within education is advantageous.

Experience of working within a multi-cultural, inclusive setting.
