Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA with a passion for supporting young people with additional needs?

A specialist SEN school in North West London is seeking an enthusiastic, resilient and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join its supportive team from September 2026.

The school supports secondary and post-16 pupils with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other complex needs. Pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and many have experienced disrupted educational journeys.

Working within a small and nurturing school environment, you will play an important role in helping pupils re-engage with education, develop confidence and make progress academically, socially and emotionally.

The Role:

As an HLTA, you will work closely with teachers and the wider school team to support pupils' academic, behavioural and emotional needs. You will help maintain a calm, purposeful learning environment while providing targeted support that enables pupils to access education successfully.

Responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils with SEMH, ASD and complex additional needs
Providing targeted 1:1 and small-group learning support
Supporting the delivery of lessons and learning activities
Helping pupils develop their academic, personal and social skills
Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
Building strong, consistent and trusting relationships with pupils
Adapting learning and support strategies to individual needs and EHCP outcomes
Supporting teachers with classroom organisation and pupil progress
Promoting independence, confidence and engagement with education
Working collaboratively with teachers and other professionalsThe Ideal Candidate Will:

Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH and/or challenging behaviour
Have a strong understanding of the factors that can influence behaviour and engagement
Be confident supporting pupils with complex and additional needs
Be able to inspire, motivate and build positive relationships with young people
Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
Be flexible, resilient and calm when managing challenging situations
Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team
