HGV Repair & Refurbishment Estimator

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially minded Vehicle Repair & Refurbishment Estimator to join an established specialist commercial vehicle operation.

Working predominantly with refuse collection and waste-management vehicles, you will assess vehicle condition and damage, identify repair and refurbishment requirements, and produce accurate, competitive quotations.

This is a varied and practical role where your technical knowledge and commercial judgement will directly influence the quality, efficiency and profitability of each project.

The Role

You will work closely with technicians, bodyshop professionals, suppliers, customers and management to establish the full scope of work required on each vehicle.

From initial inspection through to completion, you will ensure estimates accurately reflect the required labour, parts, materials and specialist services while identifying the most commercially appropriate repair or refurbishment solution.

Key responsibilities will include:

Inspecting specialist commercial vehicles and assessing their overall condition
Identifying mechanical, bodywork, accident-damage and refurbishment requirements
Producing accurate and competitive estimates and customer quotations
Calculating labour hours, parts, materials and subcontractor costs
Liaising with technicians, mechanics and bodyshop staff to confirm the required work
Obtaining and comparing prices from parts suppliers and specialist subcontractors
Preparing clear and professional estimates for customers and internal teams
Reviewing additional work identified during repairs and updating estimates accordingly
Determining whether components should be repaired, refurbished or replaced
Ensuring estimates remain commercially viable without compromising workmanship
Maintaining accurate records of quotations, repair requirements and project costs
Communicating clearly with customers regarding repairs, costs and timescales
Working closely with workshop and management teams throughout each project
Helping to ensure work progresses efficiently and meets customer expectations
About You

You will be a practical, detail-focused professional with strong mechanical, bodywork or commercial vehicle knowledge and the ability to translate technical findings into clear and accurate estimates.

The successful candidate will:

Have experience estimating vehicle repairs, accident damage or refurbishment work
Ideally possess experience with HGVs, commercial vehicles, refuse vehicles or specialist equipment
Be able to assess vehicle damage confidently and determine the work required
Understand labour times, parts, materials and associated repair costs
Be commercially aware and capable of producing competitive, profitable estimates
Have a strong eye for identifying additional work and potential issues
Be highly organised and comfortable managing several estimates simultaneously
Communicate confidently with customers, suppliers and workshop teams
Be comfortable using computerised estimating systems and Microsoft Office
Work effectively both independently and as part of a busy workshop operation
Take a practical, analytical and solutions-focused approach to each project
Experience in any of the following areas would be particularly advantageous:

Refuse collection or waste-management vehicles
HGVs and commercial vehicles
Vehicle body repair and fabrication
Mechanical maintenance and repairs
Accident-damage assessment
Vehicle refurbishment
Fleet maintenance
Hydraulic systems
Welding and fabrication
Tail lifts, compactors and specialist vehicle equipment
Commercial vehicle parts and supplier networks
