This contract with our central government client is for a HEO Policy Legal for 5 months with a possibility for extension. The role is located in Whitehall and requires 1-3 days per week onsite or as required for business needs.

Responsibilities for this role include:

• Advising on legal policy matters for ARAP cases, processes, and emerging issues.

• Providing policy input to the development and operation of the ARAP; ensuring that the policy develops to meet their needs, is well understood, coordinated across Whitehall and is correctly applied by the DARR team.

• Building a strong relationship with policy colleagues of other departments, ensuring that the policies of all three Departments are aligned.

• Analysing a broad range of complex inputs and preparation of clear advice to prepare ministerial, legal and senior advice and briefings as per the strategic, operational and legal direction required within the Directorate.

• Engaging with the rest of the policy team, the Senior Leadership team in the DARR, including the relevant Deputy-Directors, so they are aware of issues and can provide senior input to decision-making.

• Identifying pertinent information from case working and eligibility files to clearly articulate how and why decisions were made regarding an applicant’s case and across wider cohorts.

• Ensuring good information management practices.

• Producing briefings for current issues such as high profile individual ARAP cases.

• Leading for the team on dismissals litigation and linking in with other teams in DARR on this topic.

• Liaising with cross-government representatives on ARAP and resettlement legal issues, including FCDO and Home Office.

• Ensuring coherence of outputs across DARR teams.

• Keeping track of key deadlines as part of a busy portfolio and prioritising within this, to ensure their equities are protected.

• Deputising for the G7 Assistant Head as and when required.

• Line Managing DARR Policy Support Officers as needed.

Requirements:

• Experienced in document redaction.

• Law degree – LPC

• Civil litigation – disclosure & redaction.

• Communication / stakeholder management skills.

• Policy or secretariat work
