Heavy Plant Inspector – HS2
Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire
Salary: £45,000
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
NEOS Engineering are working with a major infrastructure contractor supporting a large-scale HS2 project in Aylesbury. We’re looking for an experienced Plant Inspector to join the site team and take responsibility for ensuring a wide range of heavy plant, vehicles and associated equipment remains safe, compliant and ready for use.
This is a hands-on site-based role, working closely with the Plant Manager, maintenance teams and OEM engineers.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for carrying out inspections and checks across a varied fleet of heavy earthmoving machinery, site vehicles and ancillary equipment.
The role will suit someone with a strong background around heavy plant maintenance or inspection, who is comfortable working outdoors on a busy construction project.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out pre-delivery and pre-use inspections on heavy earthmoving plant and site equipment.
Complete on/off-hire inspections, recording machine hours, condition, damage and general wear.
Inspect site vehicles including 4x4s, minibuses and other support vehicles.
Check safety-critical equipment including cameras, beacons, alarms and other warning systems.
Monitor tyre, GET, undercarriage and cutting-edge condition.
Carry out basic greasing, lubrication and fluid checks.
Identify defects and report plant issues to the relevant maintenance team.
Support OEM engineers with access to machinery and minor maintenance tasks.
Carry out basic repairs and component changes where required.
Replace GET and cutting edges when necessary.
Maintain records, inspection paperwork and photographic evidence.
Produce and follow RAMS for relevant activities.
Manage stocks of oils, greases and other fluids, ensuring COSHH areas are maintained correctly.
Issue permits to work for OEM engineers and other authorised personnel.
Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping and compliance across the plant operation.
What We’re Looking For
Previous experience working with heavy plant, either in a maintenance, inspection or engineering capacity.
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Plant Maintenance.
CSCS Green Card / relevant CSCS certification.
Full UK driving licence.
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Good understanding of plant safety and inspection requirements.
Able to complete basic paperwork, reports and computer-based records.
Understanding of RAMS and safe systems of work.
Desirable
CPCS A68 Plant Mover qualification.
Welding experience.
Experience working with major plant manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Volvo or Bomag.
Previous experience working on major infrastructure or construction projects.
