Role Purpose
To deliver a high quality, proactive, customer-focussed health and safety service. 2 To act positively and constructively, bringing energy and focus to this important area of work and willing to go the ‘extra mile’ to deliver good customer service.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the development and delivery of health and safety programmes, projects and policies, under the direction of the Senior Health & Safety Adviser and in accordance with the overall health and safety programme of work.
Provide advice and support to managers and employees on all health and safety matters, including legal compliance, operational best practice, accident and ill health prevention, in accordance with Council policies and procedures.
In conjunction with operational management, contribute to the effective implementation of health and safety policy objectives and local solutions to health and safety problems that take account of local operational business needs and service delivery.
Contribute to the Council’s audit programme of health and safety performance, conducting site visits, gathering evidence and interviewing employees as necessary.
Conduct investigations of accidents and incidents, producing reports as required, and making practical, cost-effective recommendations as appropriate and ensure that actions are taken as necessary to protect the Council’s employees, reputation and assets.
Requirements
Minimum requirement is the NEBOSH General Certificate UK or other appropriate equivalent qualification. Ideally, post-holders should be working towards, or willing to work towards the NEBOSH Diploma and Membership of IOSH.
Experience of advising managers on health and safety operational and policy issues and contributing to organisational benefits.
Experience working in a housing association or council
Ability to apply knowledge and experience within the context of organisational culture, corporate objectives, customer needs and health and safety legislation
Experience of providing sound health and safety advice to managers on a variety of issues
Contract
Initial 12 month contract with the opportunity to extend
Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
