Health and Safety Officer

Reporting directly to the site General Manager, the Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for continuing to drive a positive H&S culture by delivering a comprehensive and pro-active site-based H&S support service that meets the needs of the business and legal requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Health and Safety Officer

•Proactively support, consult and advise employees, managers and plant management on all questions concerning the safety-related design of workplaces, including ergonomic considerations for work processes and the use of work equipment as well as hazardous substances.

•Designing, planning and delivering effective safety training and safety briefings based on the risk assessments and safety instructions as well as support of the managers in their implementation.

•Supporting managers in the preparation and regular review of risk assessments, method statements, site inspections and audits.

•Responsible for the implementation and maintaining of a system to perform and monitor of legal required health & safety trainings.

•Safety assessments of all plant equipment, (new) machines and systems within production area.

•Responsible for monitoring legal compliance with health and safety legislation throughout the plant by planning and carrying out site inspections (audits) including documentation, reporting duties etc. Ensuring COSHH compliance and ISO 45001 accreditation is maintained.

•Coordinate and analyzing health and safety incidents and investigations (accidents, near misses etc.) including the necessary reporting to plant management and managers, as well as establishing root cause, definition and monitoring of corrective actions and the lessons learned process.

•Support managers and employees with return-to-work risk assessments as required.

•Interface between plant and authorities (e.g. HSE etc.) to comply with legal requirements regarding health & safety.

•Chair regular H&S meetings, issuing minutes and following up actions as well as participate in other cross functional working groups.

•Issue regular H&S newsletter / bulletins to all employees.

•Coordinate PPE for employees, visitors etc as required.

Credentials of the Health and Safety Officer

* Post holder should be a self-motivated professional and have excellent interpersonal skills.

* Must have experience in a similar level role with a background in engineering / manufacturing.

* Holding a recognised H&S qualification is desired (NEBOSH, IOSH etc).

* Must have excellent communication skills and be able to mentor and support employees and managers on H&S issues as well as being able to have difficult conversations in a timely manner as required.
