Health and Safety Manager – Bristol

The Role:

The company is fully committed to maintaining registration to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 management systems in a continuous improvement environment.

The main job function focuses on leading and improving the Bristol site with respect to all health, safety & environmental matters. This includes driving improvements with ‘hands on’ support for health & safety issues whilst improving the awareness and culture of HS&E protection. This will involve motivating and managing the local site representatives to gain an understanding of the main issues, developing and implementing improvement plans, coordinating / conducting internal audits and legal compliance audits with appropriate monitoring and feedback.

This role also has line management responsibility for the small Facilities management team who are responsible for the general safe upkeep of the Bristol facility and play an important part in the programme to ensure the plant’s ongoing compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

1. Oversee compliance with all statutory and company directives relating to health and safety.

2. Update or develop new health & safety initiatives, processes and supporting procedures as required.

3. Drive the ongoing improvement of health and safety standards across the company's operating sites, not forgetting remote workers.

4. Conduct regular health and safety and environmental audits with continuous improvement in mind.

5. Maintain an up to date, fit for purpose suite of relevant policies and procedures.

6. Provide support to line managers, employees and others on all health and safety issues.

7. Provide health & safety induction training to employees and agency workers.

8. Plan and execute the provision of ongoing health & safety training.

9. Support the business with incident investigations.

Quality:

1. Set business targets and objectives for continuous improvement

2. Organise, maintain and manage the Integrated Management Systems of ISO 9001.

3. Leading contributor in obtaining 14001 & 45001.

4. Ensure procedures are followed through internal audits; coordinate the internal auditor group

5. Carry out supplier audits to ensure suppliers can supply the standards required

6. Drive the accurate and effective use of product databases to monitor quality, identify issues, and drive improvements

7. Oversee quality assurance checks on incoming deliveries and products before they leave the factory and maintain quality records on products; analyse product fault data for early warning of potential 'problem' faults

8. Ensure all employees work to the high standards and quality ethics

Requirements:

1. Health and Safety Background

2. NEBOSH or similar qualification

3. From manufacturing or industrial environment

4. Excellent motivational and people skills

5. Strong leadership skills to constantly drive safety and quality improvements.

6. A “hands-on” implementer of processes and change

7. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

8. Excellent computer skills.

9. Ability to collaborate with stakeholders in a ‘hands on@ capacity.

10. Self-motivated, focused, well organised and able to deliver on deadlines.
