Job Title: Quality & Product Safety Coordinator

Location: Sunderland

Salary: £30,000 per annum approx

About Us: STEM Recruitment is a leading recruitment agency specialising in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. We are currently seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Quality & Product Safety Coordinator for our esteemed client.

Role Summary: The primary role of the Quality & Product Safety Coordinator is to support the QHSE Manager in maintaining the company’s Quality and Hygiene Management System. This position involves daily collaboration with the site management team, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and maintaining the consistent safety and quality of products supplied to customers.

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

Certification and Compliance:

Liaising with certification bodies, organizing site audits, responding to non-conformances, and ensuring full compliance with certification standards and accreditation systems.

Working with the QHSE Manager to review and update policies and procedures to continually strengthen and improve quality management systems.

Documentation and Technical Support:

Completing customer questionnaires and preparing technical specifications.

Managing the company’s internal audit and self-inspection programs.

Helping develop and implement a robust and efficient CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) Program.

Maintaining up-to-date calibration records and arranging service and repair of laboratory equipment.

Quality Assurance:

Conducting and documenting forward and reverse traceability exercises and product withdrawals.

Assisting in maintaining the company’s HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plan.

Delivering short training programs and conducting information and awareness briefings.

Performing general quality assurance duties such as process quality checks, compiling certificates of analysis, archiving samples, and conducting laboratory tests (e.g., oxygen transmission rate, heat-seal/lamination bond strengths, coefficient of friction, solvent retention, primary aromatic amines).

Health, Safety, Hygiene, Environment, and Accreditations:

Ensuring department activities comply with the company’s health and safety management system, statutory legislation, ISO 14001 certification, statutory environmental legislation, and SMETA Best Practice Guidance.

Key Results Areas/Outputs:

Maintaining systems and documentation to ensure full compliance with the BRC Global Standard for Packaging and the American Institute of Bakers Standard.

Key Internal Relationships:

Production Management Team (Print Manager, Conversion Manager, UK Engineering Manager, Warehouse & Logistics Manager)

UK Procurement Team

Sales Managers

Technical Department

Shift Supervisors

Production Personnel

Key External Relationships:

Customers

Auditors

Service providers (e.g., pest management, external calibration services, work clothing provider)

Other Requirements:

Qualifications:

GCSE grades 3/C or above in Math and English essential

Skills:

Good organizational and time management skills

Excellent Microsoft Office skills

High standards of personal conduct and professional performance

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Good team player; ability to work as part of a team and alone on own initiative

Ability to think and plan ahead

Reliable and flexible to manage changing priorities

Accurate with good attention to detail

A positive, proactive, and constructive approach to problem-solving
