The opportunity

We are recruiting a Health & Safety Advisor for a leading regulated business based in St Albans.

This is a hands-on position with a clear objective: review and strengthen the organisation’s current health and safety arrangements, identify any compliance gaps and implement practical, sustainable improvements.

The successful person will work across production, laboratory, warehouse and office environments, helping the business maintain legal compliance and remain ready for future inspections.

This is a three-month fixed-term contract that is likely to extend.

Responsibilities will include:

• Conducting detailed health and safety compliance audits
• Reviewing policies, procedures, SOPs, risk assessments and COSHH documentation
• Identifying, prioritising and closing compliance gaps
• Implementing practical improvements across operational departments
• Reviewing incident reporting and investigation processes
• Strengthening root cause analysis and corrective-action procedures
• Reviewing PPE, signage, fire safety, first aid and workplace controls
• Improving chemical handling, waste management and housekeeping standards
• Reviewing health and safety training systems and records
• Delivering practical health and safety awareness training
• Supporting departmental health and safety representatives
• Tracking audit findings and actions through to completion
• Providing regular progress reports to senior management
• Establishing systems that can be maintained after the contract ends

The successful candidate

You will need to be proactive, dynamic and comfortable operating autonomously. You must be able to get into the detail, make decisions and deliver improvements quickly while developing good relationships with people at every level of the business.

You should have:

• A recognised health and safety qualification, such as NEBOSH or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
• Good working knowledge of COSHH
• Proven experience within a health and safety, compliance or auditing role
• Experience delivering compliance improvements within a GMP or similarly regulated environment
• Experience within production, manufacturing, laboratory or another regulated operational setting
• Strong auditing and problem-solving skills
• The ability to influence stakeholders and drive actions through to completion
• The availability to start at short notice

Package and working arrangements

• Up to £62,000 annual-equivalent base salary, pro rata
• Three-month fixed-term contract, likely to extend
• 40 hours per week
• Five days per week on site in St Albans
• No home working
• 22 days’ annual holiday entitlement, pro rata
• 3% employer pension contribution
• Some flexibility around working hours may be available once established in the role

This is a genuine opportunity to make a visible impact within a short period and leave the business with stronger, sustainable health and safety arrangements
