Head of Strategic Transport & Highways
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Council's Strategic Transport & Highways service
Act as a strategic liaison with Transport for London (TfL) and other government bodies
Develop and implement transport policies and strategies
Prioritize and plan capital projects and resource allocation
Manage development projects and ensure compliance with regulations
Oversee road safety initiatives
Lead initiatives for cycling, walking, and school travel planning
Manage the submission of Local Implementation Plans (LIP) and maintain liaison with TfL on traffic light systems
Job Requirements
Significant experience in a similar role within the public sector
Strong background in transformation, change management, and performance management
Knowledge of financial aspects related to transportation projects
Ability to provide clear direction and be accountable for outcomes
The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Public Realm, providing expert advice on strategic transport matters and representing the Council in cross-Borough and London-wide transport groups. They will also lead the proposed Bakerloo Line Extension (BLE) programme and contribute to the development of transport policies and plans.
