My client, a prestigious organization in the field of marine research, is seeking an experienced IT practitioner to lead their team of Information Technology (IT) specialists. The Opportunity:

Our client is excited to offer an opportunity for an experienced IT practitioner to take on the role of Head of IT. In this position, you will oversee all IT functions, manage IT operations, and implement new systems and policies within a dynamic and increasingly digital landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, evaluate, and implement IT strategy and operational plans to support the organization's vision, mission, and objectives.
Enhance and maintain business resilience from an IT perspective, focusing on security and business continuity.
Lead and develop a diverse team of Windows, Linux, and DevOps professionals.
Manage and oversee the entire IT environment, ensuring integration, streamlining, and security of systems and tools for current and future needs.
Liaise with key stakeholders to drive service improvements through planning and execution.
Lead the procurement of infrastructure architecture, including design, migration, integration, and installation.
Develop and mature IT service management principles, including governance, policies, processes, procedures, and standards.
Ensure the quality of day-to-day infrastructure and network operations.
Act as the senior escalation point for IT operations issues and major incidents.
Manage the IT Group's operational budget (approximately £400k) and additional project budgets.
Maintain relationships with Tier 1 system IT suppliers.
Develop and maintain IT operational KPIs with associated quality thresholds.
Contribute to wider strategic discussions across the organization.

Requirements:

Proven experience managing multiple IT systems in areas such as program and project management, infrastructure services management, IT strategy/policy, and IT architecture.
Strong technical background in leading systems integration, including designing, developing, integrating, and upgrading IT systems.
Proven track record of delivering IT change initiatives on time and on budget.
Leadership skills with practical and strategic vision.
Knowledge of Windows and Linux technologies.
Degree in a computing qualification or equivalent experience essential.

Skills/Experience:

Strategies for Microsoft and Linux Operating Systems.
Virtualisation Platforms: ESXI/Other platforms such as Hyper-V or Azure Stack HCI.
Networking technologies: VLAN, MLAG/VLT, VRRP, Switch config.
VPN Technologies: Knowledge of Palo Alto is an advantage.
Cloud Technologies: Microsoft 365/Backup.
Security Software Layers: EDR/Email/Firewall/Patching.
Topology understanding of High-Performance Compute.
Storage technologies: Directly Attached/Software Defined.
Excellent communication skills, including negotiation skills.
