Head of Engineering £80K -£90K PA

Our company is in search of a skilled and seasoned professional to join our client’s Product Development Team as their Head of Engineering. This critical position entails overseeing all engineering disciplines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. As the department leader, your expertise will be instrumental in driving our clients’ continued success and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

* Take full ownership of Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, CAD and BOM, and Database activities.

* Lead the technical planning process for new products, ensuring effective and successful project implementations.

* Maintain engineering integrity by conducting rigorous testing programs for new and existing product designs.

* Drive the design and engineering development of internally and externally sourced parts and assemblies.

* Manage current model engineering, including change management and product warranty issues.

* Develop engineering policies and strategies, including the appraisal and selection of new technologies.

* Implement and enhance best practices in engineering tools and techniques.

* Provide staff training and development opportunities, including support for technical staff on their path to Chartership.

* Foster industrial and academic partnerships, nurturing relationships and exploring collaboration opportunities.

* Ensure product safety and compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks.

* Drive manufacturing process development, product launch, and continuous improvement activities.

* Lead and inspire the engineering team, promoting a high-performance and quality-conscious culture.

* Champion health and safety initiatives related to engineering activities and engage with stakeholders across the site.

* Develop and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive performance and ensure success.

* Prepare and manage budgets for relevant functions.

* Support product quality panels, analyse warranty data, and lead technical investigations when required.

* Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 systems, including audit responsibilities.

* Provide technical support to key stakeholders throughout the value chain.

* Act as a key advocate for the EPIC core values program.

Academic requirements:

* Bachelor's degree (2:1) in engineering or a closely related discipline.

* Advanced (postgraduate) degrees are desirable.

* Chartered status, or working towards it, with a relevant institution (e.g., IMechE, IET, etc.).

Person Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified and competent engineering leader with a proven track record in medium to large product development or manufacturing organizations. The ideal candidate will possess a broad engineering background, demonstrating the ability to deliver highly complex engineering programs with an innovative approach and excellent problem-solving skills. You should be outgoing, enthusiastic, self-motivated, highly driven, and capable of working effectively at all levels within the business.

Essential skills and experience:

* Minimum of years' experience in a leadership role, managing medium to large teams.

* Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary engineering programmes.

* Demonstrable knowledge and exposure to the full product lifecycle process, from conceptualization to end-of-life support.

* Strong understanding of engineering first principles, supported by technical qualifications and practical experience.

* In-depth awareness of current state-of-the-art materials and manufacturing processes.

* Familiarity with project gateway disciplines and ability to work under process, adhering to associated process disciplines.

* Skilled negotiator with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers
