Head of Credit Control

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Credit Control function for a well-established, fast-paced business. This is a key leadership role, offering the chance to take ownership of a high-performing credit operation while driving continuous improvement, commercial decision-making and service excellence.

Leading a team of Credit Control professionals, you'll be responsible for the overall performance of the function. This is a hands-on management role focused on coaching, reporting, improving processes and ensuring outstanding collection performance.

We're looking for someone who enjoys developing people, analysing performance and creating an environment where both customer experience and commercial outcomes are equally important.

The Role

As Head of Credit Control, you'll provide leadership across the Credit Control function, ensuring operational excellence while delivering against cash collection and performance targets.

You'll monitor team activity, drive productivity, manage escalated customer queries and provide clear reporting to senior stakeholders. You'll also identify opportunities to improve processes, maximise efficiencies and ensure the team consistently delivers excellent service.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading, motivating and developing a team of Credit Control professionals.
Driving cash collection performance and ensuring departmental KPIs are achieved.
Monitoring productivity, including call activity, email management and collections performance.
Producing and analysing reports on debtor performance, aged debt, collections and team activity.
Acting as the senior escalation point for complex customer accounts and payment queries.
Coaching and developing team members through regular one-to-ones, performance reviews and training plans.
Working closely with internal departments including Finance, Client Services and Sales Ledger to resolve issues and improve processes.
Championing continuous improvement across the collections function.
Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and service standards.
Managing attendance, performance and overall engagement within the team.

About You

You'll be an experienced Credit Control leader with a strong commercial mindset and a track record of leading successful collections teams within a business-to-business environment.

You'll bring:

Previous responsibility for managing a Credit Control team.
Experience leading team performance through KPIs, coaching and accountability.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and present meaningful reports.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
A proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
Experience driving process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Confidence managing escalated customer issues and complex accounts.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
