We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Group Financial Accountant in the financial accounting team, reporting to the Head of Financial Accounting and Compliance. The Financial Accounting team take responsibility for the running of the company’s financial accounting function, lease accounting, non-current assets, taxation, compliance, statutory reporting, and consolidation.
As a key member of the Microlise Finance team, this role plays an integral role in the month-end process as well as taking a key role in partnering with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure financial compliance across the group. Within your role as a Group Financial Accountant, you will be part of a continuous review of the internal control/audit environment and financial governance process, highlighting areas of risk to other members of the Finance team.
What you will be doing:
Managing subsidiary audits and financial statement fillings for all entities in the group across the UK, India, Europe, and APAC as required
Working with external auditors and advisors to ensure robust group and subsidiary statutory accounts are produced within the required timescales
Monitoring financial controls, including analysing data to help prevent fraudulent activity, ensuring processes are being followed and highlighting areas in need of improvement, along with promoting compliance across the team and challenging where areas of non-compliance are identified
Playing a leading role in Group sustainability reporting including assistance in the preparation of the TCFD and SECR reports for the annual report
Leading the team in standardisation and continuous improvement activities across all Group locations. Identifying, implementing, and driving value-added activities
Assisting with all Group tax matters (corporation tax, VAT, payroll, transfer pricing, R&D) and assisting in maintaining the group’s tax risk register
Maintaining a global Group statutory compliance timetable and compliance risk register
Reviewing and accounting for company share schemes
Assisting with the preparation of the monthly management accounts, providing cover as needed for other financial accounting aspects such as IFRS 16, tangible and intangible assets, ONS returns intercompany accounting and consolidation entries
Assisting with the accounting for Group acquisitions and related financial statement disclosures alongside the integration of new subsidiaries within the Group, aligning processes and procedures where required
Ensuring there is open communication with the Financial Planning and Analysis team around the period-end accounts preparation – including any areas of judgement involved in the balance sheet and helping to understand key P&L variances to budget
What we’re looking for:
A detail-driven finance professional (ACA/ACCA qualified)
Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting principles, including IFRS 3 for acquisitions
Solid understanding of accounting and financial reporting processes, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, corporation tax, VAT and understanding of PLC reporting requirements
Strong IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills & able to work to tight deadlines with high levels of accuracy
Good understanding of financial controls and Data Protection regulations
Strong problem-solving skills & organisational skills; Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently
It would be advantageous if you have:
External audit experience & experience in year-end reporting for a PLC, including preparation of statutory accounts and notes.
Successfully assisted with tax and compliance for a Global business including VAT and corporation tax calculations and returns
Successfully assisted with the delivery of the year-end audit process
Experience of IFS (ERP system)
