Grounds Supervisor

Primary role:

To assist in the management and development of all open space and associated amenities for sport leisure activities to meet local community need.To provide a mobile security backup service including on site supervision and to assist in the efficient operation of Horticulture maintenance Unit.

Key Responsibilities:

* To lead the team in the achievement of the authority’s key purposes and in the continuous improvement of its performance.

* To assist the parks in the operational arrangements for staff, premises, amenities and services so as to increase public participation, income and the utilisation of facilities

* Promote a high profile public relations image in parks and open spaces and recommend conservation measures and improvements required for the sites.

* To ensure that all sites and facilities are maintained in a safe, secure, clean and orderly fashion, and to report any defects and deviations from appropriate standards.

* To assist in the management of the Grounds Maintenance delivery, including areas managed by other departments, ensuring that the required Service Level Agreement are met.

* Provide an emergency backup for staffing of Parks

* Be responsible for Health and Safety within the Team

* To inspect and organise repair of fixed play equipment in liaison with the Council

* To undertake risk assessment

* Assist in the selection and recruitment of staff in accordance with Urbaser Ltd’s recruitment policy & procedures and ensure that all staff receive suitable training.

* To visit all Parks, Sports grounds and Open Spaces on regular basis to manage the performance of the unit against the Service Level Agreement.

* Assist in the processing of all paperwork, such as incident reports, insurance claims, Purchase orders, invoices, charges and arrange for the collation and recording of all facts and figures for management information.

* To work evenings and weekends as required and respond to emergency call outs

* To ensure that all sites and amenities are opened and closed at appropriate times

* Maintain good working relationships with key partners, service providers, stake holders and the wider community.

* The post holder will supervise the following tasks to the standard demanded by the Horticultural specification and interpretation by Greenspace Management: Grass cutting, sweeping, weeding, feeding, hoeing, raking, edging, ditch and land clearance, hedge trimming, pruning, digging, forking, rolling, scarifying, hand watering, fertilizer distribution, spraying operations, trees, rose and shrub planting, maintenance of hard porous surfaces, erecting and dismantling equipment, laying out sports areas, track and pitch marking on hard porous surfaces and grass, sowing grass seed, laying turf.

Key Tasks:

* Deployment of staff; Completion of daily works;

* Daily inspection of services; Daily Visits of all teams managed;

* Use of tracking system; Monitoring and review stock and fuel consumption;

* and Proactive continuous review of areas cleansed, including performance levels in line with Code of Practice for Litter and Refuse, and frequencies of cleansing occurrences.

Essential characteristics:

* Good-timekeeping;

* Good customer service skills; Good communication skills including written word;

* Able to work in adverse weather conditions;

* The ability to work independently or as part of a team;

* Hold a valid clean UK driving licence, in the relevant category;

* The ability to inspect vehicles and recognise defects;

* Demonstrate acceptable recent eye examination and acceptable levels of physical fitness

* Good organisational skills; and good leadership skills

Desirable characteristics:

* Previous experience of working within the industry and with or managing a team.

* Basic computer skills.
