Band 5 Staff Nurse - Neurosciences (Koala and Possum Ward)

Location: Great Ormond Street Hospital
Speciality: Brain - Neurosciences/ Neurosurgery
Hours: 37.5 hours / mixed shift pattern
Type: Full Time/Permanent (Part Time hrs considered)

We are offering an exciting opportunity to work on Koala or Possum or maybe even to rotate across both wards at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

We are looking for NMC-registered nurses to join a well-established team at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

This experience will enable you to develop skills in medical, surgical, and high dependency paediatric neuroscience nursing at a world-renowned Hospital.

No previous neuroscience experience is required, as full support and training will be provided by Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) ward-based education and management team.

About the role

Koala ward is a 24 bedded state-of-the-art children's ward caring for children 0-16 years of age with neurosurgical, neurological, and craniofacial conditions. We provide world class care for conditions such as hydrocephalus, complex epilepsy, neurovascular and brain tumours. You will also get the opportunity to develop your high dependency skills in this fast-paced environment.

Possum ward is a brand new 8 bedded neurosciences unit opening in December 2023. The unit specialises in the management of children 0-16 years of age with a wide variety of neurological conditions including stroke and complex epilepsy. This smaller unit will enable you to consolidate your skills and continue to explore the ever-changing world of neurosciences.

The GOSH pay date is on the 26th of the month (or if this falls on the weekend the last working day prior to the 26th) through the BACS system.

NMC Registration nurse
Relevant nursing qualification with 1-year post-graduation experience
Assessor or practice supervisor qualification/experience is desirable
Evidence of ongoing professional development linked to demonstrable competencies
Experience of working with acute/chronically sick children or specialised transferrable skills
Understand the importance of research and evidence-based practice
Excellent understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing
Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures
Understating or evidence of fulfilling requirements for Revalidation
Understanding of principles of clinical governance (e.g., risk management, audit, quality)
Knowledge of clinical incidents and complaints and reporting, ward specialities are advantageous
Ability to work well both in a team and on own initiative
Good time management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Computer literate
