We are searching for a passionate and seasoned individual who will be responsible for all aspects of the growing operation at our client’s site in East Lothian. You will hold a deep understanding of plant cultivation (either fruit or vegetable crops, nursery stock, or ornamental crops), have excellent leadership skills, and a dedication to plant health and vitality. Managing the wider nursery team you will ensure the site operates effectively with a keen eye on sustainable practices, all whilst meeting the production and quality objectives of the business. Role Responsibilities:
* To collaborate with the wider team managing the cultivation process, developing and executing management schedules that are aligned with business objectives and ensure optimal growing conditions
* To maintain accurate records of plant health and growth rates, analysing the data to underpin plant management strategies to help achieve optimal yields
* To undertake routine plant health and quality evaluations, highlighting any concerns to senior management
* To ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
* To organise the growing of plants through scheduling of labour, irrigation and applying plant health treatments with precision
* To oversee the day to day operations and upkeep of the nursery’s facilities ensuring optimal running conditions
* To provide guidance and support to the nursery team, promoting sustainable practices and fostering a positive work environment
Skills you will need:
Essential:
* Previous experience of working within the horticultural sector
* A qualification in horticulture/agriculture, or related experience
* Proven experience of managing a team
* A strong understanding and knowledge of plant cultivation
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks
* Strong problem solving skills with a keen eye for detail
* A strategic thinker, with strong planning and operational skills
* Confident with data analysis and interpreting results for positive outcomes
* An effective communicator with the ability to lead and motivate a team
* Driven and committed to achieving quality
* Proficient IT skills
