Description:

We are seeking an experienced Generator Technician / Field Service Engineer to join an established power generation business based in the Suffolk area.

The role will involve a combination of depot-based generator maintenance and field service, working on a range of diesel generators and associated power generation equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, fault-finding and repairing generators to ensure equipment is reliable, safe and ready for operation.

We are also keen to speak with candidates from an Armed Forces background, particularly those with experience working with generators, diesel engines, electrical systems, plant or mechanical equipment. Relevant military engineering experience will be considered alongside traditional civilian generator or plant experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer looking to develop their career within the power generation industry, with the variety of working both from a depot environment and out in the field.

Responsibilities

Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on diesel generators and associated equipment.

*

Diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults on generators.

*

Undertake preventative maintenance and planned servicing to ensure equipment remains operational and reliable.

*

Prepare generators and power generation equipment for hire, deployment and customer use.

*

Complete inspections, testing and pre-delivery checks on equipment.

*

Attend customer sites to carry out breakdown repairs, servicing and preventative maintenance.

*

Respond to field service and emergency breakdown requirements when required.

*

Fault-find across diesel engines, alternators, control panels and associated electrical systems.

*

Complete service reports, maintenance records and relevant documentation accurately.

*

Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, manufacturer guidelines and relevant health and safety standards.

*

Maintain a clean, safe and organised depot and workshop environment.

*

Support the wider engineering team with equipment preparation, repairs and general technical duties.

*

Build positive working relationships with customers and provide a professional service when working on client sites.

*

Ensure tools, vehicles and equipment are maintained to an appropriate standard.

*

Travel to customer sites across the region and wider UK when required.

The Ideal Candidate

*

Previous experience as a Generator Technician, Generator Engineer, Field Service Engineer, Plant Engineer, Diesel Technician or similar.

*

Strong mechanical and/or electrical engineering background.

*

Experience working with diesel generators, diesel engines, alternators or power generation equipment is highly desirable.

*

Experience with fault-finding, servicing and preventative maintenance.

*

Comfortable working both independently and as part of an engineering team.

*

Willing and able to work in both a depot/workshop and field-based environment.

*

Strong practical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach.

*

Good understanding of health and safety requirements within an engineering environment.

*

Full UK driving licence is desirable for the field-based element of the role.

*

Candidates from an Armed Forces / Military engineering background are encouraged to apply, particularly those with experience maintaining generators, diesel engines, electrical systems, plant or similar equipment.

*

Military qualifications and engineering experience will be considered alongside civilian qualifications.

*

Experience within the generator hire, plant hire, power generation, construction or utilities sectors would be advantageous.

Strong communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with customers and colleagues.

A flexible attitude towards travel and field-based work.

A genuine interest in developing a long-term career within the power generation industry
