Taking over as General Manager from Ringwood Hamps HQ for this specialist construction sub-contractor contractor with 50+ years of excellent reputation for quality and attention to detail.
You will like
The General Manager job itself where you will support and eventually take over from the owner who is looking to retire. You will be based from idyllic office in the New Forest near Ringwood. Turnover is currently £1M - there is huge scope for growth. More specifically:
Design & build construction with Heritage homes and large estates but also on new house builds and anything chimney-related.
The GM needs to be very organised and have experience of costing work and calculating the margins for each piece of work.
Writing quotations that are detailed and well presented, scheduling the work, and always maintaining contact with the client.
Manage the site teams and be available to answer questions and ensure the right person is in the right place at the right time.
There is a small team in the office, finance, administration and phones and a large enquiry rate.
A good knowledge of Health & Safety and Building regulations is important.
Hours of work for the construction team are 7am to around 4/4.30pm but they can flex a little for the right person- it is all about ownership.
You will have
To be successful as General Manager you need to have a good business head and be able to manage the entire company. Plus a healthy mix of the following:
Ideally a background within the construction industry
A technical degree would be preferable and would be construction related i.e. HNC/BSc in Quantity Surveying and Construction
Excellent computer literacy including experience with Outlook, word and Excel spreadsheets
Ability to write well and produce high-quality reports
Good communication skills both face-to-face and remotely, with ability to deal effectively with professionals within the trade including architects, engineers etc.
Trustworthy and reliable
Self-driven, motivated and keen to learn and develop own knowledge of this specialised business
Highly organised individual with the ability to multitask and have a clear focus on developing high-quality business opportunities and relationships
Experience of managing staff including leading and developing a team is desirable
Good commercial awareness including understanding of budgeting, job costing and profitability, credit control, cash flow etc.
The role will be supporting the directors with business planning opportunities and development as well as generally overseeing and managing the business day to day.
