Description:

The General Labourer will provide essential support to skilled tradespeople, including steel fitters and mechanical fitters, to ensure construction activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and to programme. The role involves manual handling, moving materials and equipment, maintaining site housekeeping, and assisting with day-to-day site operations while adhering to all health, safety, and environmental requirements, including Thames Water site rules.

Key Responsibilities

Assist steel fitters, mechanical fitters, and other trades with daily construction activities.
Safely move materials, tools, plant, and equipment around the site using appropriate manual handling techniques.
Load, unload, and distribute construction materials as directed.
Prepare work areas to enable trades to carry out their work efficiently.
Maintain excellent site housekeeping by keeping work areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.
Assist with lifting, positioning, and securing materials under the direction of competent personnel.
Support the installation team by fetching tools, equipment, fixings, and consumables.
Ensure materials are stored safely and securely.
Assist with deliveries and stock management.
Follow instructions from supervisors and skilled operatives.
Report any unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses immediately.
Comply with all Thames Water site procedures, health and safety regulations, and company policies.
Wear and maintain the required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Carry out other general labouring duties as reasonably required.

Work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and all relevant legislation.
Follow Thames Water site rules, permit systems, and safety procedures.
Attend site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
Use safe manual handling techniques at all times.
Maintain good housekeeping standards.
Stop work and report any unsafe acts or conditions.
Support the company's commitment to environmental protection and pollution prevention.

Skills & Experience

Essential

Previous experience working on construction or industrial sites.
Good understanding of construction site health and safety.
Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual handling duties.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
Good communication skills.
Willingness to assist a variety of trades.

Desirable

Experience working on water industry or utility projects.
Experience supporting mechanical or steel installation teams.
Banksman or Manual Handling training.
Abrasive Wheels Awareness.
First Aid at Work (desirable).

Required Qualifications & Certifications

Essential:

Valid CSCS Labourer Card.
Right to work in the UK.
Desirable:

Thames Water Safety Passport (if applicable).
Confined Space Training.
Manual Handling Certificate.
EUSR Water Hygiene Card (if required for the project).
Safety Critical Medical (where required).
