General Foreman – Civils / Roads & Highways

Midlands Civil Engineering Contractor
We’re looking for an experienced General Foreman to join a well-established Midlands civils contractor on a project in Dudley.
This is very much a hands-on role. We need someone who knows how to run a civils job properly, keep the gangs moving and make sure the work is delivered safely and to programme.
The project involves roads, highways, Section 278 works, drainage and associated civils, so ideally you’ll have a solid background working on similar schemes.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the site, including:
* Managing and coordinating site gangs and subcontractors
* Roads, highways and Section 278 works
* Drainage, kerbing, ducting and associated groundworks
* Planning labour, plant and materials
* Keeping the works moving and hitting programme
* Working closely with the Site Agent / Project Manager
* Maintaining good standards of health & safety
* Dealing with site issues as they come up
* Making sure work is completed properly first time
What We’re Looking For
We’re not looking for someone who wants to sit in the site office all day.
You’ll need to be an experienced General Foreman / Works Manager who is comfortable being out on site, managing the workforce and taking ownership of the job.
Ideally you’ll have:
* Strong civils experience
* Roads and highways background
* Good knowledge of Section 278 works
* Experience managing direct labour and subcontractors
* Good understanding of drainage and general civils
* SMSTS / SSSTS
* First Aid
* CSCS
* A practical, straightforward approach to running a site
This would suit someone who knows their way around a civils job, can get on with the workforce and is happy taking responsibility for getting things built.
