GSL Education Hull is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to join a supportive and nurturing educational setting that specialises in supporting young people who may have experienced barriers to learning within mainstream education.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with small groups of learners, delivering engaging Functional Skills English and Mathematics lessons that help students develop the skills, confidence, and qualifications needed for their future education, employment, and independent living.

The provision offers a highly personalised approach to learning, focusing on building positive relationships, promoting student wellbeing, and supporting learners to achieve both academically and personally. Staff work collaboratively to create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment where every student is encouraged to succeed.

The Role as a Functional Skills Teacher:

Deliver Functional Skills English and Mathematics lessons to students with diverse learning needs.

Plan and adapt learning activities to meet individual student requirements.

Track and monitor student progress, providing feedback and support to help learners achieve their goals.

Build positive and professional relationships with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.

Promote engagement, confidence, and independence through creative and practical learning experiences.

Support students with additional needs, including SEMH, SEND, and those who may require alternative approaches to learning.

The Ideal Functional Skills Teacher Will Have:

Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Mathematics.

A recognised teaching, tutoring, or training qualification.

Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills.

Experience working with young people who may have SEMH or additional learning needs.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.

A passion for supporting students to overcome barriers and achieve success.
