Location: Remote with occasional/ad hoc travel to client sites as required
Contract Type: Contract (6-month rolling SOWs)
Rate: £468 per day Inside IR35
Clearance: BPSS Required

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Engineer to join a Health Transformation Programme, a large-scale digital transformation initiative focused on delivering modern, secure, and user-centric health services.

Working within an AWS cloud-native environment, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable digital solutions using Java and modern front-end technologies. You will collaborate within multidisciplinary agile teams to deliver high-quality services that support the programme's strategic objectives.

This role is ideal for engineers with strong public sector experience and a proven track record of delivering complex government digital services.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable full stack applications.
Build and enhance Java-based backend services, APIs, and microservices.
Develop responsive, accessible, and user-focused front-end applications using modern web technologies.
Develop and deploy solutions within AWS cloud environments.
Collaborate with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Architects, QA Engineers, and Delivery Managers to deliver programme outcomes.
Contribute to technical design discussions, architecture decisions, and engineering best practices.
Produce clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
Participate in code reviews, peer reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes.
Troubleshoot, optimise, and resolve application and performance-related issues.
Ensure solutions comply with security, accessibility, and quality requirements.Essential Skills & Experience

Proven experience working as a Full Stack Engineer within large-scale digital transformation programmes.
Strong experience delivering projects within the public sector, ideally central government.
Significant hands-on Java development experience.
Strong knowledge of RESTful API development and microservices architecture.
Front-end development expertise using technologies such as:
React
Angular
TypeScript
JavaScript
HTML5
CSS3
Experience developing and deploying applications in AWS environments.
Solid understanding of Agile delivery methodologies and ways of working.
Experience with automated testing frameworks and quality engineering practices.
Familiarity with DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and source control tools such as Git.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Experience working within multidisciplinary delivery teams.Desirable Skills & Experience

Previous experience supporting DWP, NHS, HMRC, or other government departments.
Experience delivering citizen-facing digital services.
Knowledge of containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
Familiarity with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and best practices.
Experience working within highly regulated environments.
Knowledge of cloud security best practices within AWS
