Description:
Fostering Social Worker
Barrow/Workington
£40-£45 per hour
3 days per week in office
Duties :
Assessment of Potential Foster Carers:
Conducting home visits and interviews to evaluate the suitability of prospective foster parents.
Assessing the home environment for safety and appropriateness.
Completing detailed assessment reports and making recommendations.
Placement of Children:
Matching children with appropriate foster families based on the child's needs and the carer's capabilities.
Coordinating the transition of children into foster homes, ensuring it is as smooth as possible.
Support and Supervision
Supporting Foster Families:
Providing ongoing support and guidance to foster carers.
Helping foster families manage challenging behaviours and providing strategies for coping.
Offering emotional support and resources to foster families.
Supervision and Monitoring:
Regularly visiting foster homes to monitor the child's well-being and the carer's performance.
Ensuring that foster families comply with legal and organisational requirements.
Addressing any issues or concerns that arise in the foster home.
Child Welfare and Advocacy
Advocating for the Child:
Acting in the best interest of the child in all decisions.
Ensuring that the child's needs are met, including educational, medical, and emotional requirements.
Representing the child in court or at administrative hearings if necessary.
Developing Care Plans:
Creating and implementing individualised care plans for foster children.
Coordinating with other professionals, such as teachers, doctors, and therapists, to support the child's development.
Training and Education
Training Foster Carers:
Organising and delivering training sessions for foster carers on various topics, such as child development, trauma, and behaviour management.
Providing information on policies, procedures, and best practices.
Record-Keeping and Reporting
Documentation:
Maintaining accurate records of all interactions, assessments, and decisions.
Writing reports and updates on the child's progress and any incidents or concerns.
Ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection laws.
Collaboration
Working with Agencies and Professionals:
Collaborating with child protective services, schools, health care providers, and other relevant agencies.
Coordinating services and resources for foster families and children.
Attending meetings and case conferences to discuss the child's progress and needs.
Crisis Intervention
Handling Emergencies:
Responding to crises and urgent situations involving foster children or carers.
Providing immediate support and finding solutions to urgent problems.Fostering social workers play a critical role in the child welfare system, ensuring that foster children receive the care and support they need while also supporting foster families in their care giving roles.
