Formulation Scientist (Materials Characterisation & Formulation)

Location: Sandwich
Contract: Fixed-Term / Temporary (18 Months)
Hours: 37 Hours per Week
Rate: Competitive Hourly Rate

About the Role

Our Client is seeking an experienced Formulation Scientist to join their Materials Characterisation team on an 18-month assignment. This is an exciting opportunity for a scientist with a strong background in pharmaceutical formulation and drug product development to contribute to innovative research, material change assessments, and product performance studies.

Working within a highly skilled scientific environment, you will support the evaluation of raw material and API variability, helping to predict drug product manufacturability and performance through laboratory experimentation, data analysis, and modelling techniques.

This role is ideal for a scientifically curious professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and translating laboratory findings into practical recommendations that support commercial manufacturing and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

* Design and execute laboratory studies to assess material variability and supplier changes.

* Apply formulation science and process understanding to evaluate product performance.

* Develop small-scale models to simulate pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

* Conduct studies covering blending, granulation, compression, coating, stability, and product robustness.

* Utilise data analysis and predictive modelling approaches to support decision-making.

* Investigate relationships between material attributes, manufacturing processes, and product quality.

* Collaborate with formulation, analytical, engineering, and manufacturing teams.

* Prepare technical reports, scientific presentations, and project updates.

* Ensure all work is completed in accordance with GLP, SOPs, and quality requirements.

* Support continuous improvement and laboratory excellence initiatives.

About You

* Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline.

* Minimum 3-5 years of industrial experience in pharmaceutical formulation, process development, or manufacturing sciences.

* Experience working with oral solid dosage forms and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

* Strong understanding of formulation development and manufacturing operations.

* Experience designing experiments and interpreting scientific data.

* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical writing skills.

* Ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
