Formulation Chemist

Our Client is a very successful Pharmaceutical and Personal Care manufacturing company. They are now seeking a Formulation Chemist. This position will be Laboratory based on site near Bedford and is a full-time permanent role.

Job Purpose

* An opportunity has arisen to join the Formulation Development team as a formulation chemist or senior formulation chemist (based on experience) to deliver rapid throughput of new cosmetic products and the formulation development of a range of pharmaceutical medicines and medical devices.

* This role will be varied requiring cross functional collaboration with several departments to drive projects from concept to launch while ensuring the company’s quality, safety, and efficacy standards are met.

* The ideal candidate will have a background in product research and development of formulations, demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, and be adaptable to change.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, plan and development of robust formulations based on the project brief while considering required claims, novel technologies, excipient / packaging compatibility, product performance, physical characteristics, physicochemical stability, sustainability, risks and costs.

* Fully and accurately document all research and development activities, managing multi-projects simultaneously.

* Work collaboratively within the team environment to find solutions to problems related to both supporting and troubleshooting existing and new product development.

* Participation in production-scale trials to ensure smooth transition of projects from development to commercial scale.

* Supporting clinical and pilot studies.

* Keep up to date with the latest industry trends and scientific advancements through research and attendance to trade shows and identify potential opportunities to help drive product improvements and innovation.

Qualifications / Experience

* BSc in cosmetic or pharmaceutical sciences

* Experience in formulation development for skincare or personal care preferably in cosmetics or pharmaceutical industries

* Strong knowledge of cosmetic / pharmaceutical ingredients and their interactions

* Familiarity with cosmetic, medicinal, or medical device regulations

* Have a ‘can do’ attitude with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively to a team setting

* Passion for continuous learning and a growth mindset

* Excellent report writing skills
