Job Title: Forklift Engineer – Workshop & Field Service Positions

Location: Based within a commutable distance of CM19

Reports To: Service Manager

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced and motivated Forklift Engineers to join our service team. The role combines both workshop-based repairs and field service activities, ensuring customers' materials handling equipment is maintained to the highest standards. Successful candidates will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and inspecting forklift trucks and associated equipment while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining high levels of safety and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Duties

* Carry out planned maintenance, servicing, and repairs on forklift trucks and materials handling equipment.

* Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic faults.

* Complete pre-delivery inspections (PDIs), refurbishments, and equipment preparation.

* Ensure all workshop jobs are completed efficiently and to manufacturer standards.

* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.

* Accurately complete service records, inspection reports, and job documentation.

Field Service Duties

* Attend customer sites to perform breakdown repairs, servicing, inspections, and fault diagnosis.

* Provide prompt and effective solutions to minimise customer downtime.

* Conduct Thorough Examinations and safety inspections where qualified.

* Advise customers on equipment condition and recommended repairs.

* Manage vehicle stock levels and maintain service van inventory.

* Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety requirements.

General Responsibilities

* Deliver a professional and customer-focused service at all times.

* Support and assist colleagues where required.

* Maintain technical knowledge through ongoing training and development.

* Follow company procedures, industry regulations, and health and safety standards.

* Participate in an on-call rota if required.

* Work collaboratively with colleagues across service, parts, and administration teams.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

* Proven experience repairing and maintaining forklift trucks, materials handling equipment, plant machinery, agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles, or similar equipment.

* Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

* Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.

* Good communication and customer service skills.

* Full UK driving licence.

* Ability to complete accurate service documentation and reports.

* Eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable

* Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, or equivalent).

* Experience with electric, diesel, and LPG-powered forklift trucks.

* LOLER/Thorough Examination qualifications.

* Forklift operator certification.

* Experience using diagnostic software and modern service systems.

Location Requirement

Due to the nature of the role and the need to respond efficiently to customer requirements, applicants should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned service depot/office location.
