Food Technology Teacher

Location: Hertfordshire

Contract Type: Full-time, temporary

Start Date: 12/10/2026

Salary: £35,602–£54,328 per annum (London M1–UPS3).

Salary depends on experience and pay scale position. The maximum salary applies to candidates with substantial teaching experience equivalent to UPS3.

Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, term time only

About the Role

Inspire pupils to become confident cooks and understand the science behind their food. Teach Now is seeking a Food Technology Teacher for an independent secondary school in Hertfordshire, teaching pupils aged 11–16 across Key Stages 3 and 4.

You will combine practical cookery with nutrition and food science, helping pupils develop creativity, independence and informed eating habits. Food Preparation and Nutrition sits within Design and Technology at Key Stage 3, with a Year 9 elective offering opportunities to deepen pupils interest.

Join an established department where academic ambition is balanced with a nurturing approach. You will have scope to bring fresh ideas to lessons, contribute to curriculum planning and get involved in pastoral and co-curricular activities.

Key Responsibilities

Plan engaging practical and theory lessons, adapting teaching to different learning needs.

Teach safe food preparation, nutrition and food science, building pupils practical confidence.

Assess learning, track progress and provide constructive feedback.

Maintain a safe, organised classroom with clear routines and positive behaviour.

Collaborate with departmental colleagues and contribute to form tutoring, pastoral support and wider school activities.

Requirements

QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

Experience teaching Food Preparation and Nutrition across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Strong practical cookery, nutrition and food science knowledge.

A creative, adaptable approach, clear communication and confident practical-classroom management.

The right to work in the UK, a commitment to safeguarding and an enhanced DBS check or willingness to complete the required checks.
