Fleet Technician
Duncrue Industrial Estate, Belfast BT3 9BP
£17.18 per hour (PAYE)
37 hours per week
12-week assignment with potential for extension, starting Monday 5 October 2026 (negotiable)
Hatched Recruitment Group is recruiting an experienced Fleet Technician to join Belfast City Council's Fleet Management Unit on a temporary basis. This is a hands-on role keeping the council's busy and varied fleet safe, compliant and on the road.
What you'll be doing:
Servicing, maintaining and repairing HGVs, LGVs, EVs and other council vehicles, plus attachments and mobile plant
Preparing vehicles for annual testing and spotting and reporting defects early
Carrying out diagnostic testing and working to manufacturers' specifications
Minor bodywork and painting where needed
Driving council vehicles and supporting the mobile workshop service across the city
Completing job costing, time recording and quality assurance paperwork
Supporting and coaching new starters and apprentices where required
What you'll need:
A full, current Category C driving licence valid in Northern Ireland
NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Engineering, or an equivalent qualification
At least one year's experience in each of the following areas:
working in a diverse fleet maintenance environment
servicing, maintaining and repairing both HGV and LGV vehicles
maintaining and repairing vehicle attachments and mobile plant
Good health and safety knowledge in a workshop setting
Strong teamwork, organisation and communication skills
Two or more years' experience in each area is desirable.
