Fleet Controller - Ipswich/Felixstowe

About the Role

Our client is looking to recruit a Fleet Controller to join their busy fleet operations team based in Felixstowe. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous Fleet Controller experience or a recent graduate looking to develop a career within fleet operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring fleet maintenance is managed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with operator licence obligations.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and manage external workshop activities for planned and unplanned maintenance, including MOTs, tachograph calibrations and associated services for fleet trucks and trailers.
Ensure all maintenance is completed in line with OEM recommendations and Operator Licence obligations.
Provide regular Vehicle Off Road (VOR) updates to operational teams to support effective resource planning.
Build strong working relationships with external maintenance providers to schedule repairs and communicate vehicle downtime accurately.
Monitor and challenge maintenance and damage costs to ensure value for money.
Source and manage approved, competent maintenance contractors for all fleet requirements.
Ensure all compliance documentation is checked, completed and uploaded within required timescales.
Monitor outstanding defects and ensure all safety-related issues are resolved promptly.
Provide guidance to drivers and operational teams on maintenance solutions to minimise vehicle downtime.
Act as a technical point of escalation for colleagues where required.
Raise and authorise purchase orders within agreed financial limits.
Ensure vehicles and trailers are serviced and maintained in accordance with company policies and statutory requirements.
Maintain accurate repair records and ensure all documentation is completed to the required standard.
Communicate effectively with operational departments to ensure efficient fleet management.

Skills & Experience

Previous experience as a Fleet Controller or within fleet maintenance, transport or vehicle operations.
Knowledge of fleet maintenance planning and vehicle compliance.
Understanding of Operator Licence requirements and fleet legislation.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with suppliers, drivers and operational teams.
Commercial awareness with the ability to control maintenance costs.
Proficient IT skills and experience using fleet management systems would be advantageous.
A proactive approach with strong problem-solving abilities.
