Description:

Conrad Consulting are delighted to be working with a well established, traditional architectural practice in Birmingham, launching a dedicated Fire Safety department, and they are looking for a Fire Engineer to help build it from the ground up.

This is a rare chance to shape a new service line rather than slot into an existing structure. The department will operate separately from the main practice, giving you real autonomy, and there is genuine scope to progress to Director level with profit share for the right person.

If you are a Fire Engineer who has hit the ceiling at your current company and wants more responsibility, ownership and influence, this could be the move you have been waiting for.

The company are a 40+ strong Architectural practice that work across a broad range of sectors and project types, including; Industrial, Logistics, Healthcare, Education, Retail, Residential and more. They have a plethora of work ready to go for a dedicated Fire Engineer, so they are not requiring someone to bring this kind of work into the company. If anything, they are currently having to turn away work of this type until they recruit a dedicated Fire Engineer. This is where you come in!

The practice are based in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter with transport links close by. Hybrid working is offered along with flexible hours, including early finishes on Fridays. Bonus scheme in place which has consistently been paid out since it was brought in almost 15 years ago, even during the Covid downturn.

The Role

Lead and develop the new Fire Safety department, with real input into its direction, services and culture

Deliver fire engineering and fire safety strategies across a range of projects

Work alongside the practice’s in-house architects, who have strong experience on fire-related projects

Build client relationships and help grow the department’s workload

Contribute to the department’s processes, standards and reputation

Progress to a Director title with profit share for the right candidate

About You

Essential:

CEng or IEng chartered Fire Engineer (or working towards chartership)

A solid understanding of fire safety regulations, design standards and building control processes

The drive and ambition to take on more responsibility and help establish a new department

Also welcome:

Graduate and Junior level Fire Engineers who are keen to grow into the role. Full training and support will be provided by the practice’s experienced architects, so you do not need to have all the answers on day one.

What’s on Offer

Salary negotiable, likely £50,000-£75,000 depending on experience

Opportunity to become a Director with profit share

The chance to build and shape a brand new department

Training and mentoring from experienced in-house architects with fire project expertise

A stable, respected architectural practice behind you, with the freedom of a standalone department

Clear progression and genuine influence from the outset
