They’re expanding their statutory compliance team and want someone to install, service, test and repair fire detection and alarm systems across a portfolio of commercial and leisure premises in the Godalming and Guildford area.

This suits an electrician who has moved into fire systems, or a fire alarm engineer with solid electrical qualifications. Most of the work is planned servicing and reactive call-outs, with some small installation, remedial and light electrical work.

What our client offers

* £40,000 – £46,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications

* Overtime at enhanced rates, plus standby allowance for the call-out rota

* Company van, fuel card, tools, uniform and PPE

* Phone and tablet

* Door-to-door pay (travel time paid)

* 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays

* Pension scheme

* Paid training and manufacturer courses, including wireless and addressable systems

The role

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on fire detection and alarm systems in line with BS 5839-1

Test, diagnose and repair faults on conventional, addressable and wireless systems, including panels, detectors, sounders, call points and interfaces

Attend emergency call-outs and fix faults quickly so sites can stay open and safe

Carry out installation, extension and modification work, including containment, first and second fix wiring and termination

Service and test emergency lighting (BS 5266) where qualified

Carry out electrical fault-finding, small power and lighting repairs, and other light electrical works as required

Test and certify your own work, and complete service reports, logbook entries and certificates accurately

Record all work on the job management system using a tablet or smartphone

Report defects, recommend remedial work and help with quoting for repairs

Represent the business professionally on live, customer-facing sites

Follow all health and safety procedures, permits to work, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)

Essential

* City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent time-served electrical background)

* 18th Edition (BS 7671) wiring regulations

* Proven experience servicing and maintaining fire alarm systems

* Knowledge of BS 5839-1 and common panel manufacturers

* Strong fault-finding skills

* Valid ECS card

* Full UK driving licence

* Able to work on a call-out rota and flexible hours, including evenings and weekends where required

* Experience on a facilities management or multi-site contract

* Experience with wireless fire systems and combined fire and security systems

* Emergency lighting qualification

* Working at height (IPAF/PASMA) and asbestos awareness training

* Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

Working pattern

Full-time, 40 hours a week, with an on-call rota (about 1 in 6, depending on team size). Work is based in the Godalming and Guildford area
