Yes, you'll need to get the fundamentals right. You'll take responsibility for areas including statutory accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, VAT, corporation tax processes and financial controls.

But that's really where the opportunity starts.

As you establish yourself, you'll get exposure to some of the more unusual and technically interesting work that comes with a large, acquisitive group.

That could include supporting the integration of newly acquired businesses, simplifying group structures, improving processes and controls, and getting involved in technical accounting projects around areas such as leases and evolving accounting standards.

It's experience that could significantly broaden your technical knowledge and your CV.

You'll work closely with an experienced Financial Reporting Manager who wants someone capable of becoming a trusted pair of hands, taking ownership and gradually getting involved in increasingly complex work.

And there's a longer-term career angle too.

The finance leadership team is actively thinking about succession planning. They want to bring in someone with the ability and ambition to develop, rather than somebody who simply wants to do the same job indefinitely.

It's professional, but it isn't stuffy, and you'll be working alongside people who collaborate, enjoy what they do and are dealing with plenty of change as the organisation continues to grow.

Ideally, you'll be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.

However, qualification isn't everything. If you're qualified by experience and can demonstrate the right depth of financial reporting experience, particularly around areas such as VAT, statutory reporting, financial controls or technical accounting, you'll also be considered.

You'll need to be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and seeing pieces of work through from beginning to end.

The role is based in Sunderland and is office-based five days a week, with some flexibility around working hours. You'll receive 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
