Location: London or Remote

Salary: London office based : £57,489 / Remote based: £55,762

As one of two Senior Advisors for Procurement, you’ll provide strategic commercial and contract management insight and expertise.

Financial Planning and Analysis Accountant – The Role:

This is an exciting newly created role working as part of the Financial Planning team. In this role you will manage the financial Planning in alignment with, and delivery of the medium-term business plan, tracking progress and taking pro-active steps to ensure corporate objectives are met and develop the financial reporting capability. Collaborative working is important at the Commission, so you need to be comfortable and able to build and maintain working relationships with key internal colleagues, governmental departments (HMT, NAO, etc), and external bodies to ensure that internal controls, systems, processes and business practices at the Electoral Commission meet statutory, regulatory and auditing requirements.

Financial Planning and Analysis Accountant – Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and manage the annual budget and reforecast setting and monitoring processes and the generation of the medium and long-term financial plan within the planning cycle

- Develop, analyse and report on monthly management accounts and the Finance Report incorporating the latest forecast position

- Engage with all budget holders and colleagues with financial / procurement responsibility routinely (e.g. regular and ad hoc reviews) to ensure that spending is controlled and remains within the agreed budget

- Review compliance with relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal control procedures

- Build an evidenced based approach to the financial requirements of the Corporate Plan

Financial Planning and Analysis Accountant – You:

You will need to be a qualified accountant with working experience in a finance function of a medium sized to large organisation including involvement at a decision-making level in a full planning round. Previous knowledge and experience working with Public Sector Spending rules and accounting principles is desirable. You also need to have good interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong collaborative working relationships with people at all levels.  You should have the following:

- It is essential that you hold a Chartered/Certified Accountant Qualification (Note we are not asking for grades or degree requirements however, in order to operate as a Finance Manager its required to be a qualified accountant)

- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills  

- Understanding of principles involved in planning, budgeting and forecasting

- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, with experience in forecasting modelling

- The ability to translate financial data into actionable insights
