We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join a fantastic public sector organisation on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a pivotal role, responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, delivering robust financial reporting.
Based in Birmingham city centre (1 day office based).
You'll play a central role in the preparation and laying of our Annual Report and Accounts, while ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of our financial processes. From treasury management and supplier payments to financial systems, audit and counter-fraud activity, your work will directly support effective decision-making across the organisation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys combining technical accounting expertise with leadership, stakeholder management and continuous improvement.
About the role:
As Financial Controller, you'll take ownership of key areas of financial control and reporting, ensuring our accounts are accurate, robust and delivered to a high standard.
- Lead the preparation of the organisation's final accounts for external audit, acting as a key point of contact for external auditors throughout the process.
- Lead Main and Supplementary Estimate submissions.
- Oversee day-to-day treasury management, including required returns to HM Treasury, HMRC and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure financial systems and controls are effective and support accurate financial reporting throughout the year.
- Support the development and implementation of future financial systems and improvements.
- Act as the Counter Fraud Lead, ensuring appropriate processes, training and reporting arrangements are in place.
- Line manage the Financial Accounting team of five, while providing wider leadership and support across the Finance Team.
- Report directly to the Head of Finance and deputise for them when required.
