About the Job
As the Finance Controller, you will oversee the extensive duties undertaken by the shared services finance team under you direct management. Distinct from the Finance & Performance team, this role provides a clear segregation of duties in several key areas and focuses more on the correct accounting, audit and record keeping. You will also be liaising with and working alongside a diverse team of skilled operators and professionals in departments across the Group, supporting them in their financial record keeping. In this role you will supervise the maintenance of all transitional financial systems, whilst identifying aspects that can be improved and implementing any necessary changes to support in their development.
Key Responsibilities include:
Line management duties of the employees within the Group Finance Shared Services Department
Take overall ownership for the duties of your team in the smooth operation of the following:
General accounting oversight
Monitoring and administrating internal polices and controls
Coordinating processes between third parties and the business
Managing banking & company credit card transactions including bank reconciliations
Provide finance support to the Group’s HR and Payroll function, including reporting, payments and creditor/debtor reconciliations
Management of Accounts Payable including payments, vender set up and relations
Management of Accounts Receivable including billing, collections and receipting
Intercompany reconciliation and reporting within group and wider company
Collation, review and filing of all required VAT returns, HMRC PAYE payments and Pension Fund contributions
Preparing and communicating cashflow projections including management of intercompany loans to meet liabilities on a weekly basis
Become the subject matter expert on financial systems and implementation of accounting policies in line with prevailing FRS
Lead the end-to-end audit process of current systems, while acting as a point of contact for external auditors
Oversee timely and accurate period close results, including preparation of monthly/quarterly management accounts, associated reports to stakeholders and thorough review of all balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare annual revenue and capital budget models, analysis and reports for Senior Management Team and Budget holders
Monitor financial progress against targets and provide timely updates to stakeholders through regular forecasting, and monthly finance reviews
Assist in ensuring that all internal control measures are implemented and communicated to all appropriate staff. Assist in the risk management process within the department and in the promotion of risk management throughout the group
Maintain a Fixed Asset Register
Contribute toward group efficiency projects/initiatives
Develop and supervise the implementation of internal financial accounting, monitoring, and reporting systems
About you
Fully qualified ACCA / ACA / CIMA or equivalent
No less than 5 years’ experience in similar management roles involving line management of multiple staff
Be an articulate, team player with the ability to communicate confidently with junior and senior finance and operational personnel alike
Strong IT skills, including Excel, a can-do attitude to learning new systems
Experience of working within a professional environment
A friendly customer-focused attitude
Experience working in a hybrid/remote finance department is desirable
Knowledge of Agresso / BWO is desirable
Knowledge and understanding of Excel pivot tables is desirable
