Financial Controller (4 month FTC) – Swinton – Hybrid - £75,000 + Benefits

Portus Supported Housing (PSH) is entering an exciting new chapter following the successful merger of Bespoke Supportive Tenancies (BeST) and Westmoreland Supported Housing. Bringing together two established organisations with shared values and purpose has been a significant journey of change and transformation. Now emerging from that transition with a clear identity and renewed ambition, Portus manages 2,340 homes across England and Wales, united by one purpose: Safe Spaces for Independent Living.

As Portus looks to the future, appointing the right people will be key to building on this positive momentum and shaping the next stage of its journey. This is an exciting time to join the organisation at a pivotal time – helping to embed positive change, strengthen its culture and ensure Portus continues to provide safe, stable homes where people can live with confidence, dignity and independence.

Portus Property Management (PPM) is the commercial subsidiary responsible for delivering maintenance and repairs across the Portus housing portfolio. Operating as a distinct, commercially focused business, it combines strong financial and operational performance with a clear social purpose. As part of the restructure an exciting opportunity has arisen for a technical and talented Financial Controller for a period of 4 months for this part of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the accurate and timely production of monthly and annual statutory accounts for PPM.

Oversee balance sheet reviews, month-end reporting and regulatory compliance.

Manage external audits and ensure compliance with VAT, CIS, PAYE and corporate tax requirements.

Provide technical accounting, tax and VAT support to the Finance team.

Lead cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning and working capital management.

Provide financial analysis and reporting to the PPM Board, PSH Finance team and external stakeholders.

Support financial strategy, budgeting, planning and decision-making.

Analyse repairs costs, identifying trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.

Drive improvements to financial processes, systems, policies and internal controls.

Lead, develop and manage the Finance team, ensuring clear responsibilities, accountability and performance expectations.

We are looking for a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong financial and technical accounting knowledge. The successful candidate will be confident working independently, using their own initiative and taking ownership of their responsibilities. You will be adaptable and comfortable working in a changing, fast-paced environment, with the ability to react quickly to emerging issues, manage problems effectively and find practical solutions. Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are essential, alongside a proactive and flexible approach to supporting the wider business.
