Financial Accountant

Are you an experienced finance professional looking for an opportunity to combine technical accounting expertise with strategic financial support in a highly respected public sector organisation?
We're recruiting for a Financial Accountant to join a well-established organisation that provides essential services across the East Midlands. This is a varied and rewarding role offering exposure to statutory accounting, audit, pensions accounting, budget management and financial planning.
The Role
Working within a small but highly capable finance team, you will play a key role in ensuring robust financial management and reporting across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:

Leading to the year-end close-down process and production of the Statement of Accounts
Acting as a key contact for external auditors
Supporting budget managers with financial monitoring and reporting
Preparing pension accounting information and statutory returns
Contributing to medium-term financial planning, forecasting and annual budget setting
Producing high-quality financial analysis and management information
Supporting continuous improvement within financial processes and controls
What you'll need to succeed

Experience working within a financial accounting or technical accounting environment
Strong knowledge of financial reporting and year-end processes
Experience supporting audits and preparing statutory accounts
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesQualified accountants (CCAB/CIMA) are encouraged to apply; however, applications from part-qualified accountants or candidates actively studying towards a professional qualification will also be considered where there is relevant technical accounting experience.
Experience within local government, wider public sector, emergency services, housing, NHS or other regulated organisations would be advantageous, although candidates from commercial backgrounds with relevant expertise are also encouraged to apply.
