Financial Accountant

Description:

Reporting to the Head of Group External Audit & Reporting you’ll assist in providing data and information for analysis and with the preparation of the statutory accounts. You’ll help to maintain the integrity of balance sheets across all companies and ensure all external returns are completed in a timely manner.

The location
You’ll be based at our office in Croydon with the option for working in a hybrid way when appropriate and as agreed with your manager. You’ll be expected to attend your main office 2 days or more per week and travel occasionally to other offices for stakeholder meetings in person.

What you’ll be doing:

* Committed to putting external and internal customers first, understanding their needs and expectations and achieving results.

* Develop and maintain good professional working relationships with customers and partners.

* Assist with reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and ensure the integrity of parent & subsidiary balance sheets.

* Assist with management of the day-to-day accounting and monthly reporting for subsidiaries.

* Ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions in accordance with current accounting standards such as FRS102 & IFRS.

* Provide information for year end audit on a timely basis and deal with all routine enquiries.

* Assist with the preparation of the Subsidiary and Group statutory accounts.

* Maintain Ledgers on the accounting system.

* Ensure that all transactions are dealt with appropriately in all subsidiaries, e.g. SHO Homebuy, SHGL investment revaluation etc.

* Assist with providing financial analysis when required for other finance teams or parts of the company, e.g. support with budget preparation.

* Ensure the accuracy of the trial balance and work with the management accounts team at month to ensure to ensure any consolidation adjustments are dealt with correctly.

* Help to identify inefficiencies and improve processes within the team.

* Prepare journals as required.

* Assist with project work and carry out any other duties required by line management within reasonable limits.

What you’ll need:

Experience

* Thorough understanding of financial transactions from books of prime entry to financial statements

* Experienced user of financial database ledger systems

* A working knowledge of current financial reporting standards

* Able to present financial information in a meaningful way for users.

Skills

* Experience of reconciling financial accounts

* Intermediate to advanced Excel skills

* Good oral and written communication skills

* Sound analytical skills for evaluating issues and identifying possible solutions

* Ability to prioritise workload and meet agreed deadlines

Qualifications

* Qualified or finalist professional qualification in accounting (e.g. ACCA, CIMA) or relevant experience in an accounting environment.
